My Side Hustle Internship Journey
Hey guys! My name is Idumeka but most people prefer to call me Meka. I'm going to be taking you along with me on my internship experience in side hustle so far, so seat tight and buckle up, its going to be a loooonnnnggg ride......hahahaha just kidding.
Before I go on, it would be proper for me to give a brief company description of side hustle. Side Hustle is an Information Technology company, it is a talent management company which support global businesses and startups. It equips Nigerian youths with the right skills to prepare them for employment. Side hustle interns learn from the best minds, execute world class projects thereby empowering them to achieve their goals.
MY JOURNEY
I signed up for the Website Design and Development(Frontend) course and this is my second week in the side hustle internship and I am proud to say that I have completed two projects, yaaay! Is that an applause I hear? I think I deserve it lol. The first task was done with only HTML and the second task was done with HTML and pure CSS.
WEEK 1
The week 1 task was to create a tribute page following some instructions

The tribute page was to be built using only HTML, this is the easiest task I have done so far during this internship. I had just one challenge and that was to figure out how to link my image in the image tag since the image I wanted to use was saved on my local computer whereas the task was done using the codepen text editor. Meanwhile, we were required to submit only the codepen link to our project in order for the mentors to have easy access to it. I found out that codepen doesn't allow upload of images but with a few google searches, I discovered that I could upload the image to my google drive, use the link of the uploaded image in my image tag and that was how I solved the problem. I was able to finish this task within a day, talk about an easy task!

The above pictures are screenshots of the tribute page I built with only html.

WEEK 2
The week 2 task was to build the Fylo dark theme landing page

The landing page was to be built using HTML and pure CSS without using any framework whatsoever. Here is a link to the challenge, you are welcome to attempt it if you are up to the task. Honestly, this task was a lot more challenging than the week 1 task, it took me a few days to complete it.
This task was built with:
- HTML
- CSS custom properties
- Flexbox
Below are screenshots of my project on my laptop. I took two screenshots of my project, one showing the top page of my project and the other showing the bottom page.

Below are screenshots of my project on my mobile phone, the first one shows the top page of my project and the other one shows the bottom page of my project

What I found most challenging about this task was making it responsive across all devices, I used the desktop-first workflow approach in making my website responsive which I later realized isn't the best approach. I struggled while trying to use flexbox to make my website responsive but I am proud to say that in the process, I learnt a lot about flexbox and responsive design.

CONCLUSION
I am really grateful for this internship opportunity, people say the best way to learn web development is to try your hands on projects and I can tell you that these two tasks I have done has helped me increase my knowledge in HTML and CSS. I also appreciate the mentors, they are always ready and willing to answer our questions, provide useful resources that will help our learning process and basically guide us on this web development journey. I can't wait to try my hands on the next task!
Adiós 👋🏾......lol that's Spanish for bye
